There are 3 categories of influenza virus.
Influenza virus A, B, and C.
Influenza virus A contain hemagglutinin (H) and neuraminidase(N) ,but the structure of these proteins differs from strain to strain due to rapid genetic mutation of viral genome. There are 16H and 9N subtypes but only H 1,2 and 3, and N 1 and 2 are commonly found in humans.So,after all, H1N1 is the king of most common cause of influenza(flu) in humans.
Generally there are 3 types of H1N1 flu, human flu, avian flu(bird flu) and swine flu.
History of influenza, a very serious case, Spanish flu in year 1918 - 1920 killed almost 100 millions people worldwide. This is not a small amount,ok? There are all innocent people. Some people maybe think that this happened because of over-population in our earth. There were minor symptoms of this swine flu in year 1999 and 2007. Then, this year,2009 the swine flu become uncontrollable, because the viruses have been mixed and merged between humans flu, bird flu and swine flu. This process named reassortment. Therefore, these viruses have high resistance towards antiviral drugs that normally use protect human beings against influenza flu.
What should we do now? Well, good question... There are somethings you definitely can do, even though you are not a great scientist to find the cure, you can still do all the precautions to protect yourselves and all human beings. ( What I meant is that when you have fever, do not have physical contact with others, go for medical check, test whether that is swine flu or not, in the meanwhile, quarantine yourselves.) haha... sounds cruel... but think carefully, you may infect to your love one. Do you want them to die with you because of your carelessness?
The symptoms of swine flu in people are expected to be similar to the symptoms of regular human seasonal influenza and include fever, lethargy, lack of appetite and coughing.Some people with swine flu also have reported runny nose, sore throat, vomiting and diarrhea.
Influenza viruses can be directly transmitted from pigs to people and from people to pig. Human infection with flu viruses from pigs are most likely to occur when people are in close proximity to infected pigs, such as in pig barns and livestock exhibits housing pigs at fairs. Human-to-human transmission of swine flu can also occur. This is thought to occur in the same way as seasonal flu occurs in people, which is mainly person-to-person transmission through coughing or sneezing of people infected with the influenza virus. People may become infected by touching something with flu viruses on it and then touching their mouth or nose.

Swine influenza viruses are not transmitted by food. You can not get swine influenza from eating pork or pork products. Eating properly handled and cooked pork and pork products is safe. Cooking pork to an internal temperature of 100 degree celcius kills the swine flu virus as it does other bacteria and viruses.
